Anna Hawley

“Water has been a constant companion in my life”

Meet Anna Hawley, the Administrative Assistant for the San Antonio River Foundation. Water has been a constant companion in Anna’s life. She grew up on a lake in northern Minnesota and spent her summers in college working at an outfitter on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. During her time there, she discovered her passion for connecting people to the natural world and their home places.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point, she worked as the Public Program Coordinator at the Aldo Leopold Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Based right next to the shores of the Wisconsin River, she used Leopold’s ideas and writing as a springboard to create programs that facilitate connections between people and the places they call home. She was also able to complete a Master’s Degree in Environmental Conservation from the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

Having moved down south, she enjoys discovering how the citizens of Texas connect to the essential resources rivers and watersheds provide. She resides a few blocks away from the Guadalupe River with her husband and three cats in Gonzales, Texas. In her free time, she enjoys reading, camping, hiking, and exploring her new home state of Texas.
